For a person that wanted a gift to give to his lodge when he moved house.
The first and probably last piece I turn from Ebony.
Ebony has been over harvested from various countries and is never sustainable.
However I’ve recently encounted someone stocking Blackwood who seemed to suggest some Tazmanian Blackwood is grown and harvested in a sustainable way… something to definitely look into. Until then I’m happy using Bog Oak, ebonised timbers (using a vinegar + iron solution to react with timbers containing tannin), and scorching timber to achieve a black finish if desired.
